The night descends and transforms our visible world. What seems familiar and ours during the day becomes somewhat strange and mysterious. Perhaps it is the mystery of the night that constantly inspires artists to dream about it. The author of this picture book sees it as a woman in a blue starry dress, both a young and ancient queen, who arrives with her entourage of nocturnal beings, blending reality and dreams. She creates a space for clockless hours, enigmatic pictures, and animals that gladly drink tea. She waves her hand, and wondrous characters listen to her, on land and at sea. She waves, and the beginnings of stories scatter, and the flags of distant kingdoms flutter. Times blend, motifs from fairy tales and space exploration intertwine. Neither rotations nor journeys cease in her darkness; she draws signs in the sky for travellers. Look, her earthly signs point in opposite directions – every direction is good, and in every direction, there are nocturnal expanses... And when she departs – who bids her farewell on the balcony, who returns home by the stairs? – dreams retreat with her into sleep. Such is Jasmina's night, open to the imaginings of her readers.
